Lead Guide/Scenic Hiking (She/Her)
Greetings, and thanks for taking the time to read this! I’ve been a guide pretty much all my life.
I was born in 1955 and was lucky enough to grow up as part of the team at a Natural history center - a Junior Museum - in the San Francisco Bay Area. I took my first museum class when I was eight years old when it was a traveling school program and began volunteering when I was eleven when the museum got an actual brick-and-mortar home. The Junior Museum network in the Bay Area was designed to connect kids and nature, and I would have to say it worked.
I grew up as a young naturalist, builder, and artist. In high school I was teaching classes, running the exhibit department, and leading trips into the mountains and desert. Most summers I was out on backpacking trips or exploring the desert far more than I was home.
After I left high school, and after an internship at the Smithsonian in Washington DC, I studied forestry, environmental sciences, and art, went on to be a fire lookout, worked for a backcountry outfitter in Idaho, had my own horse outfitting business in Montana, founded and ran a timber frame home building company with my husband, became a pilot and raised two sons and now am enjoying the world’s greatest granddaughter.
The common thread, and my favorite thing through all I have done, is helping people (including myself!) have a really great time doing things that they are very nervous about.
These days, while I am largely retired, and off the regular rotation of guides at the Guru, I still love taking people out into the park, especially multi-generational groups, multi-day trips, and referrals from people I’ve taken out in the past. As a fascinated student of quantum science, awareness, and energy, I also love the conversations I have with people, as we use our time on the trail together to deepen our connection with everything.
Right now my main focus is a game I am developing, which my team and I aim to have completed and on the market in the spring of 2024. It’s an experiential adventure game, designed for fun and also for use as a guide training tool. I’ll definitely post more here as it comes to life!
