Lead Guide/Guide Coordinator/Leadership Team
I grew up living all over the east coast, from Vermont to Florida. As a kid I was always an avid explorer, often spending summer nights in a makeshift shelter I built myself. At the age of 22 I joined the US Air Force and served for 25 years which landed me in Utah for my last assignment.
Once I started to explore UT, I fell in love with the vast differences in wilderness you see throughout the different elevation ranges. From lowland desert to forested mountains to high alpine meadows. Up to this point mountain biking had always been my primary love, then I discovered canyoneering and this opened up an entirely different world. A world sculpted by nature over hundreds of thousands of years and largely unseen by humans until very recently. I also kind of geek out on the technical aspects of how to navigate that world in a safe manner.
Shortly before I was to retire from the Air Force I had an opportunity to meet the owner of Zion Guru and tag along as he trained two new canyoneering guides.
After observing his teaching style and his ethos of meeting our clients at their level and building them up I knew I wanted to be a part of this and do this for a living. On the second day I asked him for a job. I started out as an outfitter in the store and as an assistant guide working my way to a lead guide and now as the guide manager for Zion Guru.
