Hiking with Dogs in Zion National Park
Our Pups and our Park
YES! You’re finally visiting Zion NP! One of the most beautiful places on Earth with some awesome hiking. Whether it’s just you, you and a partner, friends, or family there is something for everyone.
Sadly, as amazing as our National Parks are, they aren’t very pet friendly. Zion is among many Parks that have very limited trails for our four-legged children, but there are many solutions to keep our pets happy, healthy and active!
The options for our furry friends
There are many pet-friendly hotels in the Springdale area with dog areas to let them stretch their legs. Most hotels don’t allow dogs to be left alone in the rooms for more than a couple hours at a time, but that’s no problem! There is one trail inside of Zion that is pet friendly, the Pa’rus Trail! While not overly exciting, it travels along the Virgin River and is the perfect spot to walk your pet. It is a paved trail with a few spots of shade cover, has some amazing views, and tons of river access. During the hot months, it’s nice to walk for a few minutes then take the pups down to the river for a nice dip.
Outside of the NP in the town of Springdale, there is a dog-friendly park (not fenced in or anything) but the dogs can play in the grass and still have access to the river. Other amazing trails to do in the Zion area that are pet friendly: Eagle Crags trail (not recommended in the summer months due to the extreme heat, and lack of water) Red Cliffs National Conservation Area, and local trails in St. George!

What if I can’t take the doggo with?
If you are visiting Zion specifically for Angel’s Landing, the Narrows, or maybe looking to Go Canyoneering or Rock Climbing with Zion Guru you can visit Doggy Dude Ranch for daycare and overnighters. Another useful resource for local sitters is found on The Rover app.
